Neighbourhood festival with Blue Light Mile, Sunday shopping, family flea market, and fashion show in the Krefeld district of Uerdingen
Uerdingen is located in eastern Krefeld directly on the Rhine — historically an independent town, it has been part of Krefeld since 1929. With around 25,000 inhabitants, Uerdingen is one of Krefeld's largest districts and retains a strong sense of self-identity: a Rhine harbour, the Chempark (formerly Bayer plant) as an economic engine, its own town centre with a marketplace, and a vibrant club life. The Uerdinger Spring Festival is one of the district festivals that showcase Uerdingen's character.
The 2026 Spring Festival will take place on Sunday, April 26, starting in the afternoon. The marketplace will be closed to car traffic from Saturday 6 PM to Sunday 8 PM, and Alte Krefelder Straße will be blocked from 11:30 AM to 6 PM. A day-long transformation of the district.
The heart of the festival is the Blue Light Mile on the marketplace and Oberstraße starting at 12 PM. Here you will find:
Children can climb into emergency vehicles, put on helmets, and operate hoses — an accessible introduction to the world of rescue services, which has been a highlight for families for years.
In parallel with the Blue Light Mile, Uerdingen's shops will participate in Sunday shopping (1:00 PM to 6:00 PM). From fashion boutiques to bookshops, hairdressers, and drugstores — Uerdingen's shopping streets around the marketplace and Oberstraße will be open. The organiser is the Uerdinger Kaufmannsbund e.V., which coordinates the entire Spring Festival.
The fashion show at 3:30 PM on the main stage will present the spring collections of Uerdingen's fashion stores — a popular programme item that combines shopping and entertainment. In addition, there will be a family flea market with stalls where families sell used toys, clothes, and books, a food mile with specialities from local caterers, and live music throughout the day.
The Uerdinger Spring Festival is an example of successful district work: the Kaufmannsbund, clubs, rescue services, the city, and residents all pull together. The focus is not on tourist marketing, but on experiencing one's own neighbourhood. Those who spend the day in Uerdingen will get to know a district with depth — far from the cliché of Krefeld as a purely industrial city.
A neighbourhood festival with a dual focus: a safety demonstration by rescue services and Sunday shopping at the local businesses. A family-oriented programme with a fashion show, flea market, and food stalls — a classic Uerdingen spring day.
