„sprezzatura 22 — Longing for Arcadia": Baroque music and contemporary sounds in the Gut Temmen sheep shed
Gut Temmen, a historic country estate in the Uckermark region, has been a recurring venue for the Uckermark Music Weeks for years. The sheep shed — a former farm building with a high wooden ceiling and an elongated hall — offers an exceptional acoustic atmosphere for chamber music. Here, the programmatic idea of the music weeks comes to life: concerts in rural settings, making the acoustics and atmosphere of the venue part of the performance.
The program „sprezzatura 22" stands for the Italian ideal of seemingly effortless elegance — a central aesthetic concept of the Italian Renaissance, also used in musicology today. „Longing for Arcadia" refers to the pastoral motif of the classical shepherd's land — a topos that is central to baroque music. The concert combines baroque works with contemporary soundscapes — a program that sets musical tradition and present-day composition in dialogue.
A guided farm tour takes place one hour before the concert (3:00 PM) — visitors explore Gut Temmen with its historic architecture and agricultural operations. During the concert intermission, sandwiches with homemade sausage and cheese from the estate are served. This combination of attending a concert and a farm tour is typical of the Uckermark Music Weeks — and showcases the festival as a blend of classical concert and cultural journey.
The concert in Temmen-Ringenwalde is one of over 22 concerts in the 2026 festival edition (August 1–23). The series takes place in barns, stables, manor houses, and village churches in the Uckermark. New to the 2026 program are the Hypershale in Templin and Gutshaus Woltersdorf. Three open-air concerts are planned in the Bürgergarten Angermünde, the Greiffenberg castle ruins, and the garden of the Jewish Museum Schwedt.
Temmen-Ringenwalde is a small municipality in the Uckermark district — typically Uckermark with vast fields, small forests, and historic village structures. Gut Temmen is one of the oldest country estates in the region and shapes the village with its farm buildings. With the concert in the sheep shed, the festival brings international music culture to a space otherwise dedicated to agriculture and rural life — a remarkable contrast and the hallmark of the Uckermark Music Weeks.
The concert „sprezzatura 22 — Longing for Arcadia" is one of the late festival programs of the 2026 season — on the second-to-last festival day (festival ends August 23). The sheep shed at Gut Temmen, with its wooden ceiling and unique acoustics, offers an ideal space for the program.
The farm tour at 3:00 PM — one hour before the concert — and the sandwich break with homemade sausage and cheese make the concert a multi-hour cultural experience.
