Festival for Early Music in the Uckermark

The Uckermark Music Weeks were founded in 1992 and are now one of Eastern Germany's most distinguished Early Music festivals. They bring classical and Baroque music to atmospherically charming venues in the sparsely populated Uckermark – one of Germany's most rural regions. The festival motto is 'Early Music and More': alongside Baroque and Renaissance, the program also features contemporary works, crossover projects, and unusual formats.

Festival Time August 2026

From August 1st to 23rd, 2026, the festival will span three August weeks with over 20 concerts. Venues include:

• Historic granaries, barns, and stables
• Culturally and historically significant churches of the Uckermark
• Magnificent manor houses
• Open-air locations such as the Greiffenberg Castle Ruins

Concert in Greiffenberg — August 9, 2026, 4 PM

One of the highlights of the 2026 festival is the open-air concert 'Die lustige Feld-Musik – The Art of the Oboe Band' at the Greiffenberg Castle Ruins, part of Angermünde in the Uckermark district. On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 4 PM, a special ensemble will present Baroque wind music within the historic walls of the medieval castle:

• Judith Gerhardt — Oboe
• Beáta Polonkai — Recorder
• Enrico Toffano — Bassoon
• Peter Alexander Bauer — Percussion

The ensemble traces the tradition of the Baroque oboe band – wind ensembles that played at court festivals and in military ceremonial service in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Greiffenberg Castle Ruins as a Concert Venue

The Greiffenberg Castle Ruins are located in the Greiffenberg Valley, about 10 kilometers west of Angermünde. They date back to the 13th century and are now picturesque ruins set within a nature park. The open courtyard with its historic walls offers exceptional acoustics for open-air concerts.
