Contemplative Advent time on Lake Constance — eleven days of Christmas market on the Hofstatt
From December 10 to 20, 2026, the Hofstatt in the historic old town of Überlingen will be transformed into one of the most beautiful Lake Constance Christmas markets. Eleven days of contemplative pre-Christmas atmosphere with lovingly decorated stalls, regional craftsmen, and the typical mix of mulled wine, punch, cinnamon, almonds, and fresh fir branches.
The stalls on the Hofstatt combine arts and crafts with culinary specialties from the entire Lake Constance region:
The Hofstatt is the central square of Überlingen's old town — framed by patrician houses, the medieval Minster, and narrow alleys. This setting is one of the most beautiful pre-Christmas locations on Lake Constance: narrow alleys, half-timbered houses, the view of the lake in close proximity, and the festive lighting combine to create an atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors every year from the German-Swiss border region and beyond.
The Überlingen Christmas Market is particularly suitable as part of a Lake Constance weekend:
With around 22,000 inhabitants, Überlingen is one of the most attractive towns on Lake Constance. The city is located on the northern shore of the Überlinger See (part of Lake Constance) in the Bodenseekreis district and has been an important trading and tourist center in the region for centuries. The St. Nicholas' Minster, begun in the 14th century with its rich interior, is one of the most significant Gothic churches in Southern Germany and forms the spiritual and architectural anchor of the Christmas market.
From December 10 to 20, 2026, the historic Hofstatt in Überlingen's old town will be transformed daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. into a classic Lake Constance Christmas market. Eleven days of Advent atmosphere with crafts, culinary delights, and festive lighting against the backdrop of St. Nicholas' Minster.
On the stalls, you will find arts and crafts from the entire Lake Constance region: hand-carved nativity scenes, glass art, ceramics, textiles, and jewelry. Culinary offerings include mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, crêpes, gingerbread, and Lake Constance cheese to accompany your market visit. A special attraction is Santa Claus's Post Office for children.
Free admission. Goods, food, and drinks at usual market prices.
By train: Überlingen (Seehas Engen–Konstanz / Bodensee-Gürtelbahn) station, about a 10-minute walk to the Hofstatt from the station. By car: B31 Bodensee-Uferstraße, parking garages in the city center. By ship: BSB lines call at Überlingen.
Free admission. Goods, food, and drinks are sold at usual market prices.
Plan a whole day in Überlingen: in the morning, visit the thermal baths or the ice rink, have lunch in one of the restaurants on the harbor, and in the afternoon, take a city tour and visit the market. The Bodensee-Erlebniskarte combo pass is particularly attractive in December.
