57th Edition — one of the best-known Volksfeste on the Hochrhein
Rheinfelden (Baden) is located in the Lörrach district (AGS 08336) directly on the Hochrhein river, opposite the Swiss town of Rheinfelden (AG). With around 33,000 inhabitants, Rheinfelden is an important industrial city with a tradition in aluminum, chemicals, and electronics — and at the same time a tourist hub for hikers in the foothills of the High Rhine and Black Forest. The Trottoirfest has been the town's annual summer tradition since 1969.
The 2026 edition is the 57th Trottoirfest (the 56th took place in 2025). The organizer is the Verein Rheinfelder Trottoirfest e.V. association, chaired by Thomas Schmiederer. The association brings together local clubs — sports clubs, music clubs, fire departments, churches — and organizes the festival on a voluntary basis.
The venue is the Alte Landstraße, Rheinfelden's main traffic artery. Closed for three days, it transforms into a festival mile with:
The Trottoirfest has a typical Markgräflerland/Hochrhein character: cozy, community-club oriented, with great acceptance among the town's population. Swiss neighbors come over the Rhine bridge — the Hochrhein region is linguistically and culturally a unit, an Alemannic dialect area on both sides of the border.
Last weekend of August, as is traditional:
With the closure of the Alte Landstraße for several hundred meters, the Trottoirfest is one of the longest festival miles in Southern Germany. A total of several tens of thousands of visitors are expected over the three festival days — from the Lörrach district, Switzerland, and the entire Hochrhein region.
As every year, three festival days with an opening evening on Friday, the main festival day on Saturday, and Family Day on Sunday. Several stages along the Alte Landstraße will offer live music simultaneously — festival-goers wander between the stations, and each club stand serves its specialty.
Free admission. Food and drinks at the club stands at festival prices.
