Tip
The market also runs between Christmas and New Year's Eve — a rarity among Christmas markets. Those who shy away from the crowds should come on December 27, 28, 29, or 30, when the masses have departed, but the mulled wine and atmosphere are still there. For families: Weekday early afternoons are quieter than weekends. Book Après-Ski evenings and corporate party packages in advance.
ChristkindchenMarkt — Leverkusen's central Christmas market
The ChristkindchenMarkt Leverkusen is the largest and most established Christmas market in the Bayer city. From November 19 to December 30, 2026, it transforms the pedestrian zone in Leverkusen-Wiesdorf, between Rathaus-Galerie and Galeria Kaufhof, into an Advent experience quarter. Over 60 festively decorated stalls line the city centre, illuminated fir trees and fairy lights transform the Wiesdorf concrete into a warm Advent world — and above all: the market runs for six weeks, including the period between Christmas and New Year's Eve, when most other Christmas markets have already been dismantled. This makes it a reliable destination for families, professionals, and tourists from all over the Rhineland.
The Offerings — Mulled Wine, Bratwurst, and Arts and Crafts
The stalls offer the full Christmas market spectrum:
- Mulled wine and punch in numerous variations — from classic to elderflower to Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine with rum)
- Bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, waffles, mushrooms in cream sauce, roasted almonds
- Arts and crafts — woodwork, ceramics, jewellery, glassblowing, knitwear
- Gift ideas — books, toys, Advent decorations, incense smokers
- Culinary specialties — international foods, German classics, regional specialties from the Bergisches Land
Ice Stock Rinks, Après-Ski, and Corporate Party Packages
Special features that distinguish the ChristkindchenMarkt from others:
- Two ice stock rinks at Wolters Sportbar — groups of up to 8 people can book from €30 per rink. Ideal for corporate team events or gatherings with friends.
- Après-Ski program — themed evenings with alpine music, hut atmosphere, and appropriate costume dress code
- Corporate party packages — reserved tables and catering vouchers for 15-60 employees — a popular alternative to the classic corporate party in a restaurant
- Charity huts — clubs and organizations can operate stalls, some free of charge, to collect donations and present their work
Sunday Shopping on November 29, 2026
On Sunday, November 29, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Leverkusen city centre shops will open for Sunday shopping. Rathaus-Galerie, Galeria Kaufhof, and the smaller shops around Wiesdorf market square will offer promotions, mulled wine for customers, and a cosy Sunday shopping experience to kick off the ChristkindchenMarkt. An ideal opportunity to buy the first Christmas presents and then fortify yourself at the market with punch and bratwurst.
Leverkusen-Wiesdorf — Bayer City on the Rhine
The district of Wiesdorf is the centre of the independent city of Leverkusen, dominated by the Bayer headquarters and the Bayer Group, to which the city owes its existence — Leverkusen was only founded in 1930 as a "Bayer factory town". Wiesdorf forms the urban centre with the town hall, Rathaus-Galerie (shopping centre), and the pedestrian zone. The ChristkindchenMarkt is located in the heart of this city centre and is ideally accessible by public transport — the Leverkusen-Mitte S-Bahn station (S6) brings visitors to the market in a 5-minute walk.
Leverkusen — between Cologne and Düsseldorf
The independent city of Leverkusen, with its approximately 167,000 inhabitants, is located on the right bank of the Rhine, between Cologne (15 min by train) and Düsseldorf (25 min) — a location that makes it an attractive city to live in with good transport links. Known for the Bayer Group (pharmaceuticals, crop science, polymers), for Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Bundesliga club with the famous works team), and for the BayArena as its home stadium. Worth seeing are the Japanese Garden in Leverkusen-Wiesdorf, Schloss Morsbroich (now a museum of modern art), and the Rheinaue (Rhine meadow park). The ChristkindchenMarkt is the annual highlight of the Wiesdorf district.
