About Trier City Run
The International Trier City Run is one of the most established running events in western Germany, regularly attracting runners from Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Luxembourg, Belgium, and France. In 2026, it celebrates its 40th edition — a significant anniversary that holds special symbolic value in the '40 Years of Trier UNESCO World Heritage' celebration year.
The course runs through Trier's old town, passing by the most important Roman monuments — from the Porta Nigra to the Imperial Baths, the main market square, and the Cathedral. For spectators, this offers an urban spectacle that combines athletic competition and 2,000 years of history in a single setting.
The 2026 program includes several distances: Half Marathon (21.1 km) starting at 8:20 am; 10 km race starting at 8:00 am, featuring participants such as the reigning European Marathon Champion Richard Ringer and the experienced Trier distance runner Samuel Fitwi; a 5.4 km fun run starting at 9:55 am for amateur runners and families; as well as several children's and youth races with age-appropriate distances.
The organizer is the Post-Sportverein Trier (PST), which has been organizing the City Run for decades. Registrations are possible via Spoferan, with the registration deadline on June 26, 2026. Holding the event concurrently with the Trier Old Town Festival creates a particularly lively atmosphere — runners will be led directly into the region's largest Volksfest (popular festival) from midday.

The 2026 anniversary edition gains special significance through the parallel '40 Years of Trier UNESCO World Heritage' celebration year. Several thousand participants from the greater region, as well as international guests, are expected.
With Richard Ringer (European Marathon Champion) and Samuel Fitwi starting in the 10 km race, a top-class athletic competition is guaranteed.

- 8:00 am: Start 10 km race (incl. Richard Ringer, Samuel Fitwi).
- 8:20 am: Start Half Marathon (21.1 km).
- 9:55 am: Start 5.4 km Fun Run.
- Morning: Children's and Youth Races (age-appropriate distances).
- Course: Through Trier's old town, past Porta Nigra, Hauptmarkt, Imperial Baths, Cathedral.
- Award Ceremonies: Following the respective races.
- From Noon: Transition into the Trier Old Town Festival (same day).
