Traditional folk festival in the Altmühlstadt with a magnificent parade
The Treuchtlingen Volksfest takes place on the festival grounds in Treuchtlingen, a town in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen in Middle Franconia in southern Bavaria. The festival, with its beer tent, showmen, amusement rides, and a packed program of events, spans over ten days.
The Volksfest opens with the traditional beer tapping on the first Friday evening by the Mayor. The Volksfest Tuesday is dedicated to families: on the children's afternoon, there are reduced prices and attractions such as face painting, a clown show, and children's entertainment. In the evening, the grand fireworks display follows after dark.
On Thursday, the day of the clubs, the election for the Treuchtlingen Volksfest-Madl takes place – all ladies aged 16 and over who come in traditional Dirndl dresses can participate. On Monday, the strongest women and men compete against each other in a team tug-of-war.
The highlight is the grand parade on the last Sunday, which proceeds through the center of Treuchtlingen at 1:30 PM. The Treuchtlingen parades are known far beyond the borders of Middle Franconia for their magnificent presentation and attract thousands of visitors from outside the region to the Altmühlstadt every year.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. The Treuchtlingen Volksfest combines Bavarian customs with family-friendly entertainment and is firmly anchored in the region's calendar.
