A powerful Volksfest (popular festival) for horsepower enthusiasts on Pentecost
In Trecker-Treck — also known as Tractor Pulling — the goal is to pull a sledge as far as possible with a tractor on an approximately 100-meter-long sand track. The sledge is equipped with a weight transfer device that moves forward during the pull, continuously increasing the resistance. Whoever pulls the furthest — or completes the entire track („Full Pull“) — wins their class. It's a mix of motorsport, Volksfest, and technology show.
The organizer is the Karkweddel Club Fitzbek/Rade e.V., a traditional club over 100 years old from the municipalities of Fitzbek and Rade in the Steinburg district, Schleswig-Holstein. The club is considered a pioneer of organized Trecker-Treck in Northern Germany — the Pentecost weekend in Fitzbek has been a fixed date in the scene for decades.
Fitzbek is also home to the Norddeutsche Trecker-Treck-Meisterschaft e.V. (North German Tractor Pulling Championship), with its office at Kamptwiete 5 in Fitzbek. The Pentecost event is one of ten stages of the North German Championship: participants collect points throughout the season, with the final held in October in Wanderup. The championship's motto: „Full Pull und gut is" (Full Pull and that's good).
Competition takes place in several weight classes — typical are the Super Standard classes 5.5 t, 7.5 t, 9 t, and 11 t, plus hobby and special classes. The machines range from old farm tractors with upgraded engines to highly tuned racing tractors with turbo diesels and dual tires. The noise, the smoke, and the speed of the machines are the real spectacle.
In addition to the competition track, the concept includes a festival tent, beer service, food stalls with grilled sausages and fries, and a small fairground (Kirmes). Families can line up along the track, children have play areas, and in the evening, a band or DJ plays in the festival tent. It's both a Volksfest and motorsport, with the typical North German blend of horsepower enthusiasm and Low German dialect.
The 2026 edition once again utilizes the Pentecost weekend for the competitions. Pentecost Sunday and Monday will feature a full day's schedule with class runs and special events. The sledges of the North German Championship will be in use, with points counting towards the 2026 North German Championship season standings.
