Travel, nature, and kayak films on the Isar
The Tölzer River Film Festival is dedicated to the element of water and the stories that emerge around rivers, seas, and kayak expeditions. In Bad Tölz on the Isar, adventurers, nature lovers, and film enthusiasts gather for a program of international travel and nature films featuring impressive footage from wild rapids to mythical coastlines.
The festival is organizationally linked to the traditional Isar Regatta of the Deutscher Touring-Kajak-Club (DTKC) e.V. The regatta covers a long paddling route from Bad Tölz towards Munich, making the festival weekend a meeting point for the paddling and folding boat scene.
The program features well-known protagonists from the outdoor and expedition film scene. Toni Grießbach presents spectacular footage from the "Everest of Kayaking" on the Colorado River, while returning guest Olaf Obsommer takes viewers on a kayak journey through Greek mythology around Crete. An exhibition of historical folding boats complements the program.
By combining film screenings, the regatta, and an exhibition, the Tölzer River Film Festival offers a diverse outdoor and cultural experience that focuses on the fascination with rivers and water sports.
In 2026, the festival will be experienceable over four days and at various locations in Bad Tölz for the first time. The program features international travel and nature films: Toni Grießbach presents footage from the Colorado River, the "Everest of Kayaking," and Olaf Obsommer takes the audience on a kayak journey through Greek mythology around Crete. On September 12, the Isar Regatta will run from Bad Tölz towards Munich. The 2026 edition is dedicated to Ralf Petsching (died November 28, 2025), the chairman of the Friends of Historic Folding Boats e.V.; pieces from his collection will be exhibited.
Isar Regatta entry fee: €19 for adults, €10 for youths under 18 (registration required). Prices for film screenings will be announced by the organizer.
