Neighbourhood Christmas market at Gasthaus Roggenkamp with lantern procession, youth music corps, and a visit from St. Nicholas
While other Christmas markets take place in the city centres of large towns, the Kattenstroth Christmas Market has its very own charm: it is held in the heart of the Gütersloh district of Kattenstroth, around the traditional Gasthaus Roggenkamp. Instead of a large event, you'll find a genuine neighbourhood festival atmosphere here — the stalls are run by local clubs, schools, and private individuals, and mulled wine and punch are served in reusable cups.
The market opens on Friday, November 28th, with an atmospheric lantern procession: at 5:30 PM, children and families will walk with lanterns from Liebfrauenkirche to the festival grounds, where the market will be officially opened at 6:00 PM. On Saturday, November 29th, the Jugendmusikkorps Avenwedde will play traditional Advent music from 3:00 PM onwards. On Sunday, November 30th, St. Nicholas will visit the children at 4:00 PM.
Lovingly decorated wooden huts offer mulled wine, punch, non-alcoholic hot drinks, as well as Christmas treats and handmade items from the neighbourhood. For children, there's a children's carousel with real ponies, plus craft activities and sweets. The manageable size of the square makes the market particularly child-friendly — parents can keep an eye on things while children can run around freely.
The district of Kattenstroth is located in the south of the city of Gütersloh (Gütersloh district, North Rhine-Westphalia) and is one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in the city with active club life. The Stadtteilverein Kattenstroth e.V. has been organising the Christmas market on a voluntary basis for many years, using the proceeds to fund neighbourhood projects and children's events throughout the year.
Three days of neighbourhood Advent around the Gasthaus Roggenkamp. Lovingly decorated stalls, mulled wine, punch, handmade goods, and a children's pony carousel characterise the family-friendly programme. The Kattenstroth neighbourhood association organises the market on a voluntary basis.
Children's pony carousel, mulled wine, children's punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, stick bread, cookies, handmade gifts from the neighbourhood.
