Autumn Fair with Tradition
The Thomasmarkt is one of Vechta's traditional city markets with a long history. Like many old market dates in German cities, the Thomasmarkt likely dates back to a saint's day — Saint Thomas — whose calendar date fell in late autumn and provided the occasion for a season-closing market. Today, the religious connection has faded, but the market tradition has been continuously maintained.
City Center as a Festival Backdrop
The market extends across the entire Vechta city center with rides in the central squares, market stalls in the pedestrian zone, and a flea market along the side streets. - Friday, October 23: Opening in the afternoon with barrel tapping, operation of rides, in the evening a large lantern parade for families through the city center
- Saturday, October 24: All-day market operation, family day, flea market setup, in the evening grand light and music fireworks
- Sunday, October 25: Sunday shopping with special promotions from retailers, morning pint, family day, flea market, relaxed conclusion in the late afternoon
