Ibersheim — the hidden district on the Altrhein
Ibersheim is located on the right bank of the Rhine in the north of Worms and, with just over 500 inhabitants, is the smallest district of the Nibelungenstadt. The place is characterized by the flat floodplain of the Altrhein, by the Mennonite and Reformation heritage, and by a close-knit village community that regularly organizes small cultural events.
The "Text und Ton" Series
In the Protestant Community Hall, the church community has established a chamber music-literary series. "Text und Ton" combines readings and concerts without separating them in a classical concert format. An actress or a narrator interprets the texts, accompanied by music — often with a thematic link such as European folk culture, classical literature, or regional songs.
Focus on Southern Italian Songs
The Spring 2026 edition, with "Canto popolare del Mezzogiorno," is dedicated to the folk songs of Southern Italy. Songs from Calabria, Apulia, Campania, and Sicily are the focus — Tarantellas, peasant hymns, wedding and lament songs, passed down in the collections of 20th-century ethnomusicological research. Accompanying readings frame the music with historical contextualization.
