One-day Schützenfest in the Friesoythe district — August 22, 2026
Edewechterdamm is one of the smaller districts of the town of Friesoythe. As in many smaller villages, the marksmen's club has adapted and shortened the Schützenfest to a single day. This decision — on August 22, 2026 — reflects a reality that many smaller village clubs face: declining membership, higher organizational demands, lower financial reserves. Instead of giving up the festival entirely, it is celebrated more compactly, but faithfully.
The one-day format has its own advantages: concentrated schedule, lower organizational effort, clear program structure. King's shooting, festival parade, dance evening, and catering all take place on one day — on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Those who want to experience the festival should plan the whole day and arrive early.
Even though the format has become more compact: The Schützentradition (marksmen's tradition) is alive and well in Edewechterdamm. King's shooting to determine the new marksmen's king, festival parade of the marksmen in uniform, proclamation of the royal couple, social dance evening — the most important elements remain. The festival is proof that even small clubs can preserve their identity.
The fact that the Schützenfest continues to be held in smaller hamlets of Friesoythe is a remarkable commitment by the volunteer club members. They are thus preserving a piece of living village culture that has often already been lost elsewhere.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the marksmen's club in advance. The structure follows a compact daily schedule:
Schützenplatz Edewechterdamm, Friesoythe district. Take the A1 motorway, exit Cloppenburg, then approx. 30 km. Parking is available at the Schützenplatz and in the surrounding streets.
Admission fees apply for the dance evening on-site. The festival parade and the marksmen's day program are freely accessible.
Since the festival only lasts one day, plan for the entire day and arrive early so you don't miss anything.
