The Abendmarkt on Klosterplatz is one of Bielefeld's most charming open-air events. Over eight Thursday evenings in the summer, the historic Klosterplatz in the Old Town transforms into an open, atmospheric meeting place — street food, wine, live music under the summer sky, a cozy get-together after work. Up to 10 Food Vendors per Date
Local food vendors from Bielefeld set up their stalls — up to ten per Thursday. The range includes street food classics, international cuisine, pizza, Asian dishes, burgers, desserts, and drinks. Wine, beer, aperitifs, and non-alcoholic options are available at the drink bars. Seating with bistro tables, fairy lights, and decorations create an after-work atmosphere.
Musical Concept: Rockakademie OWL
The musical program is curated in collaboration with Rockakademie OWL — a Bielefeld-based music education institution. Typically performing are singer-songwriters, acoustic duos, and small bands from various genres (Folk, Indie, Pop, Soul, Blues, Latin). The stage is centrally located on Klosterplatz; the acoustics in the courtyard between the Klosterkirche and the row of houses are intimate and good.
Klosterplatz and Bielefeld's Old Town
Klosterplatz is a quiet square framed by historic buildings in Bielefeld's Old Town — just a few steps from the Alter Markt. Bielefeld, with around 340,000 inhabitants, is the central city of Ostwestfalen-Lippe and culturally much more active than the much-cited 'Bielefeld Conspiracy' meme suggests. The Abendmarkt is part of the city's vibrant summer calendar.
