Getting There
Take the KVB (light rail, bus) to the respective Veedel. A day ticket for the VRS (regional transport association) is recommended — it allows spontaneous switching between districts.

All Veedel events are free. Individual activities (workshops, concerts) may incur a small material contribution.
Program

Tip
Plan for 2-3 Veedel per day — more is not realistic if you really want to soak up the atmosphere. Recommended: Severinsviertel and Sülz on the same day (both on the left bank of the Rhine, close to each other).
Cologne Beyond the Cathedral
The Cathedral, the Old Town, the Heinzelmännchenbrunnen — that's the tourist Cologne. But the city lives in its 86 districts, the "Veedel". Here, everyone knows their baker, their brewery, their hairdresser — this is the real Cologne. The Tag des Veedels is dedicated to this very celebration: Over one weekend, 11 selected districts present themselves with their own programs, their character, and their peculiarities.
11 Veedel — 11 Programs 2026
- Agnesviertel — inner-city trendy district around Agneskirche church
- Braunsfeld — western residential district with Aachener Straße
- Dellbrück — east of the Rhine, mix of residential and commercial
- Heimersdorf — northern satellite town
- Lindenthal — bourgeois district with the city forest
- Neuehrenfeld — trendy quarter with a long-standing subculture
- Rath/Heumar — eastern residential quarter
- Rodenkirchen — on the Rhine, with its own art and culture mile
- Severinsviertel — the quintessential Cologne Südstadt (south city)
- Sülz/Klettenberg — bourgeois-bohemian, "Bunt im Carrée" tradition
- Zollstock — southern residential district

Veedel Lieben & Veedel Leben
The initiative Veedel Lieben & Veedel Leben is a Cologne citizens' initiative that aims to strengthen neighborhood culture and create a counterbalance to central downtown marketing. The Tag des Veedels is its flagship event. In 2026, a new "Veedel Calendar" will also be introduced, where residents can enter district events — with a special focus on Nippes, Rodenkirchen, Sülz, Ehrenfeld, and Lindenthal.
What a "Veedel" means to Cologne residents
The Cologne dialect word "Veedel" (from "Viertel" meaning quarter) is more than just a district name — it's a feeling for life, a pillar of identity, a space of well-being. During Carnival, people celebrate in their own Veedel, they meet at their regular pub in the Veedel, "my Veedel" is home in the microcosm of the big city. The Tag des Veedels celebrates exactly this spirit of life.
Cologne as a City of Districts
Cologne has 86 districts, grouped into 9 city districts. With over 1 million inhabitants, it is the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia. The diversity of the Veedel — from the chic Lindenthal to the colorful Severinsviertel, from Mülheim east of the Rhine to southern Zollstock — constitutes the richness of the city.
