Halle on the 16th Day of Industrial Culture Saxony-Anhalt 2026 with the Salt Museum
The Day of Industrial Culture Saxony-Anhalt has been held since 2011 and is the state's central day of action for its industrial heritage. In 2026, the statewide festival weekend will run from April 9 to 12 under the motto «Open Doors for History, Technology, and Real Pioneering Achievements». The main opening city is Dessau-Roßlau with the festive opening ceremony on April 9 in the Peter Behrens Power Machine Hall – on Sunday, April 12, over 100 industrial sites across the state will then open their doors simultaneously.
Halle is one of the most important industrial culture destinations in Saxony-Anhalt. The city owes its prosperity since the Middle Ages to salt and is closely linked to the history of salt production. It is precisely this tradition that the Salinemuseum (Salt Museum) at Mansfelder Straße 52 represents on the Day of Industrial Culture – one of the most important salt museums in Central Germany. For the Day of Industrial Culture 2026, the museum is opening its annual exhibition «Entwürfe. The Development of the New Permanent Exhibition», which offers a workshop view of the new permanent exhibition planned for 2027.
The Salinemuseum will be open free of charge on Sunday, April 12, from 10 am to 5 pm. Curated guided tours of the «Entwürfe» annual exhibition will take place at 11 am and 3 pm – they show plans, stages, and challenges of the museum's reorientation. The exhibition runs until June 14, 2026 (Wed–Sun 10 am–5 pm). Additionally, the Salinemuseum will be open until midnight on May 9 (Halle Museum Night).
Beyond the Salinemuseum, Halle is part of the statewide Industrial Culture Saxony-Anhalt network. Pumping stations, breweries, water towers, rail yards, and former industrial sites around the main train station, in the Saline district, and on the Saale slope are part of Halle's industrial history. The Day of Industrial Culture is the once-a-year opportunity to experience many of these places together.
Halle (Saale) will be one of the central locations for the statewide day of action in April 2026. While the official opening will take place on April 9 in Dessau-Roßlau (Peter-Behrens-Kraftmaschinenhalle), Sunday, April 12, is dedicated to the individual industrial sites. The Salinemuseum will open the annual exhibition «Entwürfe. The Development of the New Permanent Exhibition», offering a workshop view of the new permanent exhibition planned for 2027.
Beyond the Salinemuseum, other industrial culture sites in Halle are expected to present themselves on April 12 (in previous years, this included the pumping station, early industrial and railway sites). The exact list for Halle in 2026 will be published in the weeks leading up to the event on industriekultur-sachsen-anhalt.de.
