Four free open-air matinees at the bandstand in Landau's Goethepark in June
Landau's Goethepark is one of the oldest municipal green spaces in the Palatinate and boasts an unusual open-air stage in the heart of the city with its freely accessible bandstand. This is where the Sunday Concerts take place in June – a series that appeals to both citizens and guests of the Southern Wine Route.
The city of Landau has put together a diverse program for 2026. The series kicks off on June 7th with the State Police Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate performing "Best of Blasmusik" – symphonic wind music, film melodies, and marches. On June 14th, under the title "Mundart & mehr" (Dialect & More), a double program follows with the Strieffler Haus and the Trio Reinig, Braun & Böhm, combining Palatinate dialect, chanson, and cabaret elements. On June 21st, the Landau City Band opens the summer and, at the same time, Fête de la Musique. The series concludes on June 28th with the program "Stimmen auf der Bühne" (Voices on Stage) featuring the Chamber Choir of KI Gleiszellen and Landauer Lieder.Leute.
The Sunday Concerts have always been free. Seating is available around the bandstand and on the park's lawns; many visitors bring blankets and folding chairs. While the bandstand is covered, the audience area is open-air, so the concerts only take place in dry weather. Cancellations will be announced at short notice in case of rain.
The series is part of the city's dense summer program, which ranges from wine experiences in June and Fête de la Musique to the Landau Summer in July. It complements the "Kleine Montagsreihe" (Small Monday Series) in the courtyard of the Frank-Loebsche Haus and creates accessible musical encounters in the heart of the city.
For decades, the bandstand in Goethepark has served as an open-air stage for wind music, choirs, and song programs. The series is curated by the City of Landau and is part of Landau's summer cultural program.
