Concert Format in the Pedestrian Zone

Since the summer of 2007, Summer in the City has relied on a simple concept: a mobile stage is set up every Thursday evening in the pedestrian zone Zwischen Beiden Märkten. Right next to the Westerems-Tonne, a historic landmark placed in the city center, the concerts regularly start at 7 PM and last until 10 PM. The format is accessible: no admission fee, free standing room, and catering options in the surrounding bars and restaurants.

Music Program and Bands

The musical spectrum ranges from pop, rock, and country to singer/songwriters and cover bands from northern Germany. Emphasis is placed on engaging artists with broad appeal who can attract both city center audiences and regular attendees. Over the years, numerous bands from East Frisia, the Bremen area, and Hamburg have performed on the stages.

Tradition and Atmosphere

With almost two decades of tradition, Summer in the City is one of Emden's longest-running open-air concert series. The series is considered a popular meeting point for city center employees after work, for day-trippers, and for older generations who see the weekly format as a fixed part of their summer calendar.
