16th Open-Air summer festival in Bergheim city centre with rock, pop, and Kölsch music
Since 2010, Summer in the City has been the defining summer festival in Bergheim's city centre. The organiser is the City of Bergheim, the district town of Rhein-Erft. The 16th edition will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The format is consistent: several stages spread across Bergheim's city centre and pedestrian zone, free admission everywhere, and a programme running from afternoon until late evening.
The musical programming focuses on three genres: Rock on the main stage with national and regional bands, Pop on a separate stage with cover and original acts, and Kölschetön — that is, Cologne dialect music — on a third stage with local stars of the Rhenish dialect scene. This programming reflects Bergheim's geographical location: the city is in the greater Cologne area and shares its musical DNA.
The complete 2026 line-up has not yet been published at the time of this announcement. The City of Bergheim has already announced the date as a "Save the Date" — details about the artists, stages, and times will follow in the weeks before July 11, 2026, via the official event website city.bergheim.de/summer-in-the-city. Experience shows that the programme typically includes both established and new artists.
The 15th edition in 2025 was headlined by Yvonne Catterfeld — a performance that drew media attention to the Bergheim festival and brought thousands of additional visitors to the city centre. This programming with a national top act and free admission is a hallmark of Summer in the City — a deliberate investment by the City of Bergheim in its cultural location marketing.
Bergheim is the district town of Rhein-Erft in North Rhine-Westphalia, with around 63,000 inhabitants, located west of Cologne on the Erft river. The city is an administrative centre, a regional shopping hub, and economically shaped by the opencast mining region. Summer in the City is the city's musical flagship, bringing Bergheim residents and visitors from the Rhein-Erft district as well as from Cologne and the Aachen region to the city centre every year.
Open-air festival throughout Bergheim's city centre: several stages, three genres (rock, pop, Kölsch dialect music), and free admission. The City of Bergheim has been successfully implementing this format since 2010 — with Yvonne Catterfeld as headliner in 2025, and a line-up for 2026 to be released in the preceding weeks.
Note: The complete programme with artists, stage times, and locations of the individual stages will be published by the City of Bergheim at city.bergheim.de/summer-in-the-city.
Free admission at all stages. Food and drinks available from local gastronomy and food stalls at market prices.
Bergheim is located between Cologne and Aachen, easily accessible via the A 61 (Bergheim exit) and A 4 motorways. By train to Bergheim (Erft) station, then a short walk to the city centre. Free admission at all stages. The latest programme for 2026 is available on the festival website city.bergheim.de/summer-in-the-city.
Food stalls from Bergheim's gastronomy and catering businesses throughout the pedestrian zone, as well as the usual restaurants and cafés with outdoor seating.
