Open-air concert series at the historic lock harbor of Greetsiel
Greetsiel is one of the most beautiful lock villages on the East Frisian North Sea coast. The picturesque harbor scene with crab cutters, clinker gables, and the world-famous twin mills forms the natural backdrop for the Summer Concerts at the Koppke. The concert stage at the lock harbor is open to all visitors and offers a relaxed setting for shared summer evenings. Admission is free; a hat for the artists is gladly passed around between sets.
The summer concert series has been one of the Krummhörn's fixed tourism highlights for years. It combines the cultural identity of the lock village with the vibrancy of the summer months, when Greetsiel and the surrounding villages of the Krummhörn experience their peak tourist season. The program features local folk and shanty bands, songwriters from the region, acoustic duos, and occasionally guests from neighboring Friesland in the Netherlands.
Visitors to the concerts at the Koppke can seamlessly round off the evening in one of the many harbor pubs, crab restaurants, or ice cream parlors. Greetsiel is largely car-free in its core area; a stroll along the harbor before or after the concert is part of the experience for many visitors. The Wednesday evenings are very well attended during the high season, so arriving early is recommended.
The concerts are free to attend. The artists appreciate a voluntary collection in a hat. The event takes place in all weather conditions; in case of rain, the concerts will be moved to indoor venues in Greetsiel.
Five Wednesday evenings, a new act each week, always at the Koppke in Greetsiel's lock harbor — the 2026 Summer Concert Series runs from July 22 to August 19. The program focuses on folk, shanty, songwriters, and maritime music, supplemented by occasional acoustic duos and small big bands.
The exact lineup will be announced shortly before the season begins by the Krummhörn-Greetsiel Tourist Office.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
By car via the A31 to Emden-Mitte, then take the B210 to Pewsum, then the L4 to Greetsiel. Parking is available on the outskirts of the village, as the core area is largely car-free.
Every Wednesday from July 22 to August 19, 2026. Concerts start in the early evening; exact start times can be found in the local daily press and at the Greetsiel Tourist Office.
Free. Voluntary donations for the artists are welcome.
