International Dance Festival at Theaterhaus Stuttgart and Tanz + Performance Production Centre
The Stuttgart Flamenco Festival has been held annually since 2011 at the beginning of August and is one of the most important Flamenco festivals north of the Alps. The festival is organized by Stuttgarter Flamenco Festival e.V., in close cooperation with Theaterhaus Stuttgart, the Tanz + Performance Production Centre, and a network of Spanish dance production houses. 2026 marks the 16th edition — with a focus on the Compañía of Manuel Liñán and their current production Muerta de Amor.
The venue is the Theaterhaus Stuttgart (Siemensstraße 11, 70469 Stuttgart-Nord) — one of Germany's largest independent venues with stages T1 (main stage) and T2 (medium stage). In addition, the festival uses the adjacent Tanz + Performance Production Centre for workshops and studio performances. Stuttgart-Nord has been a hotspot for the independent dance and performance scene for years, and the Theaterhaus is one of the most important venues in the region.
The festival follows a proven three-part structure:
1. Performances — international companies present new productions on T1 and T2.
2. Galas — the Gala bailaoras (women's Flamenco) and Flamenquitos (children/young talent) showcase the spectrum of the scene.
3. Workshops — from August 2 to 8, 18 courses are offered for beginners, intermediates, and professionals. Dance steps, compositions, singing, cajón — the workshop program is one of the most extensive in Central Europe.
Stuttgart (state capital of Baden-Württemberg, independent city 08111) is one of Germany's most important dance cities. With the Stuttgart Ballet, the John Cranko School, the Theaterhaus, the Production Centre, and a vibrant independent scene, the dance ecosystem here is exceptionally diverse. The Stuttgart Flamenco Festival adds the aspect of contemporary Flamenco to this ecosystem — as an annual highlight for an international audience from all over Southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Nine days of Flamenco art in Stuttgart-Nord: From Thursday, July 31, to Saturday, August 8, 2026, the festival presents its 16th edition. At its heart is Manuel Liñán & Compañía with the production Muerta de Amor — a choreographic journey through emotional landscapes and the nuances of human relationships, presented by eleven dancers under the direction and choreography of Liñán with Ernesto Artillo and José Maldonado. Musical direction: guitarist Francisco Vinuesa and percussionist Javier Teruel.
In addition, the traditional festival format: Gala bailaoras (August 2), Flamenquitos (August 1), and the extensive workshop program from August 2 to 8 with 18 courses for beginners, intermediates, and professionals. The traditional Fin de Fiesta on August 8 marks the conclusion.
