LWH Stuttgart — Industry Summit Every Four Years
The Stuttgart Agricultural Fair is Southern Germany's most important trade fair for agriculture, forestry, and the food industry. It has been held since the early 19th century — the 102nd edition will take place in 2026 — and occurs only every four years. The venue is the Cannstatter Wasen, the traditional festival grounds in Bad Cannstatt on the Neckar River, usually known for the Cannstatter Volksfest. During the LWH, the Volksfest runs concurrently — the combination of a trade fair and a folk festival is a Stuttgart specialty.
What You'll Experience
Around 700 exhibitors from agriculture and forestry, horticulture and viticulture, animal husbandry, food production, agricultural machinery, forestry technology, renewable energies, education, and consulting. Across a vast area, visitors can see machinery, admire animals, taste regional food products, receive advice, attend lectures, and participate in workshops. The animal shows featuring cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and poultry are traditional highlights. Additionally, there are demonstration areas for agricultural and forestry machinery, a hall for regional food products, and a large section for direct marketing.
Trade and Public Exhibition
The LWH targets two audience groups: trade visitors from agriculture and forestry who negotiate with suppliers and machine manufacturers, and a broad public interested in regionally produced food, agriculture as a way of life, and animal husbandry. The lecture program serves both: technical topics for professionals, and information and discussion for the general public. In times when agriculture is controversially debated in society, the fair also serves a political function.
Family Program
For families, there is an extensive program: petting zoo, hands-on activity stations, interactive areas on food production, and a children's program with workshops. The combination of exhibition halls, open-air areas, and the parallel folk festival makes the LWH a full-day family outing — breakfast with regional specialties, animal shows in the morning, food hall at lunch, lectures or machine demonstrations in the afternoon, and the folk festival in the evening.
Significance
With around 300,000 visitors, the LWH is one of Germany's largest agricultural fairs — and, based on recent editions, the most important industry event in Southern Germany. The state of Baden-Württemberg is the organizer, the State Farmers' Association is a co-carrier, and the Ministry for Rural Areas provides political backing. Anyone involved with agriculture, food, or rural areas belongs here.
