Three-day street food festival at Sterkrade town square with craft beer bar and live music
When the first warm days return to the Ruhr area in spring, the street food season begins in Oberhausen-Sterkrade: The Streetfood Drink & Music Festival at Sterkrade town square, in front of the Technical Town Hall, has been a highlight in the Sterkrade district's event calendar for years. From March 20th to 22nd, 2026, food trucks, mobile snack bars, specialty stalls, and bars will open their doors at the town square (Bahnhofstraße 66, 46145 Oberhausen) — with free admission and an expected attendance of around 8,000 visitors over three days.
The festival's concept follows the street food festival tradition that has been booming in Germany since around 2015: hand-picked food trucks, often from the Ruhr area and Niederrhein, present their specialties — from Asian street cuisine and Mexican tacos to classic BBQ pulled pork burgers and vegan bowls, as well as sweet treats like crêpes and donuts. The culinary program is accompanied by a craft beer bar featuring local and national breweries, a cocktail lounge, and live music and DJ sets alternating with children's activities.
Friday, March 20th, 2026: 5:00 PM–10:00 PM (Opening with an after-work vibe). Saturday, March 21st, 2026: 12:00 PM–10:00 PM (Main visitor day, live music in the afternoon and evening). Sunday, March 22nd, 2026: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM (Family day with children's activities, a more relaxed wind-down). The centrally located town square offers seating, covered areas in case of bad weather, and easy connections by bus and train — the Sterkrade district is directly connected to Oberhausen-Hbf and Duisburg via Sterkrade station.
The organizer is EnMa Deutschland UG from Goch (Niederrhein), managed by Engin Ulupinar. Under the brand name Streetfood-Agentur, they organize similar festivals throughout the Ruhr area and Niederrhein. The edition in Oberhausen-Sterkrade is part of their regular program — the organizers maintain long-standing contacts with food truck operators, breweries, and musicians from the region.
Sterkrade is one of Oberhausen's three large districts (alongside Alt-Oberhausen and Osterfeld) and has around 80,000 inhabitants. The town centre around Sterkrade station and Bahnhofstraße is one of Oberhausen's most vibrant shopping and dining areas — with the Technical Town Hall as a prominent administrative seat. The festival utilizes precisely this central location: Sterkrade as Oberhausen's northern endpoint with a typical Ruhr area district character.
The 2026 edition marks the spring start of the street food festival season in the Ruhr area. Three days at the central Sterkrade town square — nestled between the Technical Town Hall and the train station — offer a variety of food trucks, bar atmosphere, and musical accompaniment.
Admission to the entire festival is free. Food and drinks at food truck/festival prices, typical street food prices between 6 and 14 Euros per dish.
By train: RE 5 / RE 19 / S 7 to Oberhausen-Sterkrade station, then a 5-minute walk to the town square. By car: A 3 (Oberhausen-Holten exit) or A 2 (Oberhausen exit) — parking available at the Technical Town Hall and in the city centre.
Fri 20 March: 5:00 PM–10:00 PM. Sat 21 March: 12:00 PM–10:00 PM. Sun 22 March: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM.
Free admission. Food and drinks at food truck prices.
