Caribbean beach atmosphere, street food, and live music in the heart of Krefeld's city centre
The Street Food & Beach Festival Krefeld brings three days of Caribbean summer vibes to Dionysiusplatz in Krefeld's city centre from August 14th to 16th, 2026. The concept: sand, palm trees, loungers, and a curated food selection under the motto "Quality over Quantity". The central square in the city core becomes a beach holiday destination for three days, no travel required.
Unlike pure mega street food formats, the festival focuses on a curated selection of food trucks. Instead of 50 stalls with standard fare, there are carefully selected vendors from the region — with specialities ranging from BBQ and burgers to Mexican tacos, Thai curries, and Mediterranean tapas. Vegetarian and vegan options are naturally available, as are sweet specialities like crêpes, waffles, and homemade ice cream.
At several bars, cocktails with a Caribbean twist are mixed — Caipirinha, Mojito, Piña Colada, and summer specials. In addition, there is wine, regional craft beers, and non-alcoholic options. The beach atmosphere is infectious: sitting in a lounger with a cocktail in hand, you'll forget for moments that you are in the middle of a German city centre.
Every evening, live music acts perform on the festival stage — Reggae, Latin, Funk, Soul, and Pop are the typical genres. Bands from the Ruhr area and Niederrhein provide the programme, complemented by DJ sets in the later hours. Background music plays during the day; the live programme focuses on the evenings from approx. 6 PM to 10 PM.
A beach volleyball court with real sand will be set up on Dionysiusplatz. Clubs, groups of friends, and spontaneous teams can register for tournaments — a mix of sports, summer vibes, and public viewing. Free play is possible during the day, with organised mini-tournaments on festival days.
The festival is aimed at all age groups — according to the organiser, the visitor demographics are well distributed (38% between 18–29 years, 32% between 30–49, 16% over 50, 14% under 18). For children, there are:
