Anniversary edition of the International Street Theatre Festival with favourite productions from 25 years – free admission
For a quarter of a century, the International Street Theatre Festival Ludwigshafen has been one of the most important street theatre festivals in Southern Germany. With its 25th anniversary edition in 2026, it looks back on a tradition that has brought international companies from Australia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, and many other countries to Ludwigshafen.
Unlike many years where premieres and new discoveries are the focus, the 25th edition consciously focuses on the tried and tested: The organizers have brought back favourite productions from previous years to Ludwigshafen – works that particularly thrilled audiences and have shaped the festival's profile.
Four international companies have already been confirmed. Gravity & Other Myths from Australia will present “A Simple Space,” one of their best-known acrobatics productions, in which seven performers explore the limits of human physicality. Chloé Moglia and her Compagnie Rhizome combine contemporary acrobatics with a contemplative visual language, staging the art of hanging on the trapeze as a meditative practice. Wise Fools, a Finnish circus collective, is known for its blend of humour and physical precision. “Le Bal des Oiseaux” by the French Compagnie Sapage Nocturne is a poetic night performance.
The performances take place in the public spaces of Ludwigshafen's city centre – in squares, courtyards, on fallow land, and in unusual locations. The distribution across the city allows visitors to explore the festival on foot and experience the city between performances.
The festival is supported by the Bürgerstiftung Ludwigshafen and the Kulturzentrum dasHaus. Both organizations have been firmly established in Ludwigshafen's cultural scene for years. This sponsorship ensures the connection between artistic quality and local community engagement.
The festival takes over various locations in the city centre. The favourite productions from 25 years of festival history are the focus of the anniversary programme.
The full schedule with all performance times and locations will be published by the organizer in advance. The structure follows the established key points of previous years.
