Heidesheim am Rhein, now a district of Ingelheim, has its own active festival culture, driven by a number of vibrant associations. At the heart of this festival activity is the Förderverein Erntedankfest und Brauchtum Heidesheim e.V., which organizes not only the famous Heidesheim Harvest Festival but also a series of other events throughout the year. One of these is the Burggartenfest, which takes place annually on the third Saturday in June.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Burggarten Heidesheim opens its gates for the summer festival. The Burggarten is a park-like area on the historic castle grounds with old trees, remnants of walls, shady seating, and an atmosphere that makes the Burggarten ideal for a relaxed summer festival.
The focus is on Rhenish-Hessian wines from Heidesheim and neighboring wineries: Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, Rosé, and Sekt (sparkling wine). The wines are served in tasting glasses, and a wine voucher system simplifies payment.
The culinary offerings include typical Rhenish-Hessian dishes: Spundekäs (cheese spread), Handkäs mit Musik (sour milk cheese with onions), bratwurst, steaks, tarte flambée, cheese platters, homemade salads, and, depending on the vendor, special delicacies. The stalls are operated by associations, vintners, and local restaurateurs.
The live music – usually acoustic or by smaller bands – creates the right atmosphere. In the shady Burggarten, the beer benches fill up, guests sit at communal tables, families bring their blankets, and the day unfolds in that relaxed village atmosphere that characterizes Heidesheim festivals. The Burggartenfest is part of an active year of associations and is organized with great commitment by the Förderverein.
