Free summer concerts with sea view — music, readings, and magic shows from June to September
The Strandkorbkonzerte Friedrichskoog use a unique venue: the wide sandy beach and the dike facilities directly on the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. When the stage is set up and the audience takes their seats in beach chairs or on blankets in the sand, you have a view of the North Sea horizon in clear weather and the feeling of experiencing one of Germany's most relaxed summer concerts.
The series alternates between two locations:
Both venues are within walking distance and offer a different kind of summer concert atmosphere — the Old Harbour is more cosmopolitan and maritime, while Trischendiek Park is more sheltered and intimate.
The programme includes concerts of various genres — from Acoustic and Folk to Schlager and classical piano recitals —, readings by local and national authors, and magic shows for families. This mix makes the series attractive to a wide range of audiences: holiday families, day-trippers from Itzehoe and Heide, older regular guests with beach chair subscriptions, and walkers along the dike.
Friedrichskoog is a municipality with just under 2,500 inhabitants in the Dithmarschen district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The resort is primarily known for the Seehundstation Friedrichskoog (Seal Centre), an important rehabilitation centre for orphaned seal pups from the Wadden Sea. Tourism focuses on family and nature holidays — the Strandkorbkonzerte complement this offering with a cultural summer format.
The concerts are explicitly free — this is part of the series' ethos and distinguishes it from many commercial open-air formats. Tips for the artists are gratefully accepted. The series is supported by the Tourismusverein Friedrichskoog and financed by foundation and sponsorship funds.
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official Friedrichskoog tourism website. Several dates are already fixed, with more to follow — typical for a summer-long concert series whose programme is gradually being supplemented.
The organiser is the Tourismusverein Friedrichskoog. The concerts are completely free of charge.
