StadtSommerKassel is the major open-air concert series in front of the Fridericianum on Friedrichsplatz in Kassel. Three prominent evenings — Mark Forster (June 19), Roland Kaiser (June 20), and David Garrett (June 21) — will transform the documenta square in 2026 into a stage for German pop, Schlager, and classical crossover. With capacities of up to 12,000 spectators per evening.

Getting There

Kassel is an ICE hub: from Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe main station or Kassel Hbf, take tram 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 directly to Friedrichsplatz. By car, use the Karlsplatz / Königsplatz parking garages, then walk.

Concerts in front of the Fridericianum

The Friedrichsplatz is Kassel's city living room — the central venue for the documenta every five years, and an open city square in between. In the summer of 2026, it will become an open-air stage for three evenings: StadtSommerKassel presents three of Germany's most popular live acts in an open-air summer format. The series is organized by the event team MM Konzerte in collaboration with Kassel Marketing.

The 2026 program features three different styles, each with its own concert evening:

Roland Kaiser had already sold more than 9,000 of 12,000 tickets months before the concert — an indication of the concert series' regional appeal.

Friedrichsplatz as a Stage

The stage will be set up in front of the Fridericianum, with the audience standing on the square facing one of Europe's most renowned art institutions. With a great atmosphere and long daylight hours, Friedrichsplatz becomes one of Hesse's most spectacular open-air stages.

Kassel in the Summer

StadtSommerKassel is strategically placed in the city's summer calendar: Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe (UNESCO World Heritage), the documenta-Halle, and Karlsaue already attract tourists — the concert series turns a weekend into a city break with live programming.
