Three open-air concert evenings in front of the Fridericianum with Mark Forster, Roland Kaiser, and David Garrett
The Friedrichsplatz is Kassel's city living room — the central venue for the documenta every five years, and an open city square in between. In the summer of 2026, it will become an open-air stage for three evenings: StadtSommerKassel presents three of Germany's most popular live acts in an open-air summer format. The series is organized by the event team MM Konzerte in collaboration with Kassel Marketing.
The 2026 program features three different styles, each with its own concert evening:
Roland Kaiser had already sold more than 9,000 of 12,000 tickets months before the concert — an indication of the concert series' regional appeal.
The stage will be set up in front of the Fridericianum, with the audience standing on the square facing one of Europe's most renowned art institutions. With a great atmosphere and long daylight hours, Friedrichsplatz becomes one of Hesse's most spectacular open-air stages.
StadtSommerKassel is strategically placed in the city's summer calendar: Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe (UNESCO World Heritage), the documenta-Halle, and Karlsaue already attract tourists — the concert series turns a weekend into a city break with live programming.
Three consecutive evenings, each featuring a main act with support. Doors typically open at 6 PM, starting around 7/8 PM. Tickets are sold separately for each evening — the concerts are not sold as a pass.
Tickets sold separately per concert. Advance sales via stadtsommer-kassel.de, Kassel Marketing, HNA, Eventim, and Reservix. Hotline 01806 – 57 00 55.
Kassel is an ICE hub: from Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe main station or Kassel Hbf, take tram 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 directly to Friedrichsplatz. By car, use the Karlsplatz / Königsplatz parking garages, then walk.
Via stadtsommer-kassel.de, Kassel Marketing, HNA-Ticketservice, Eventim, Reservix, and the hotline 01806 – 57 00 55 (€0.20/call). Separate tickets for each evening.
Those who want to attend all three evenings should plan a weekend trip and combine it with a visit to the Fridericianum or Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe.
