Biennial city festival with club catering and Sunday shopping
Heilsbronn is a small town in the Ansbach district, characterized by its long monastic history. The Heilsbronn Münster, one of the most significant monastic churches in Middle Franconia, is the historical landmark that gives the town its identity. In the shadow of this imposing structure, the Stadtfest takes place every two years — a city center festival that relies entirely on the voluntary commitment of Heilsbronn's clubs.
The Stadtfest is held every two years — 2026 is a festival year again, from July 17th to 19th, the city center will transform into a festival mile. This biennial nature gives the festival a special character, as preparations take a whole year and the residents of Heilsbronn eagerly anticipate it as a true highlight.
Unlike traditional folk festivals (Volksfeste), Heilsbronn has no fairground rides and no commercial caterers. Instead, the Heilsbronn clubs handle the catering: the fire department, sports clubs, music clubs, shooting clubs, heritage society, cultural association, and many others set up their own catering stands. Each club offers its specialty, each has its own character — strolling through the city center allows you to get to know the entire club landscape of Heilsbronn.
The city center stage and scattered stands provide a colorful musical program: brass bands, cover bands, local musicians, big bands. Particularly outstanding is the choir and orchestra concert by the Heilsbronn Kantorei in the historic Münster — a spiritual, high-quality program item that elevates the Stadtfest culturally.
Sunday is a Sunday shopping day: Heilsbronn's shops open their doors, an artists' market is set up in the city center, and regional artists present paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, and handicrafts. A mix of shopping, culture, and festival atmosphere that makes Heilsbronn attractive to the entire region on Sundays.
The Franconian club cuisine offers a wide range: Bratwurst, Schäufele, Käsespätzle, grilled steaks, accompanied by drinks from regional beer to juice. In the afternoon, coffee and homemade cakes, prepared in the club kitchens, are available. Vegetarian and child-friendly dishes are also offered.
The decision to forgo fairground attractions is deliberate: the Heilsbronn Stadtfest aims to focus on club work and the character of the city center, not the commercial logic of a classic folk festival. Those who want to experience Franconian club culture combined with medieval city atmosphere — far from roller coasters and shooting galleries — will find it here.
The Heilsbronn Stadtfest 2026 will take place from July 17th to 19th — another festival year in the biennial rhythm. The Heilsbronn clubs — fire department, sports, music, shooting, heritage, and cultural associations — will handle all catering in the city center. Unlike a traditional folk festival (Volksfest), there will be no fairground rides; everything revolves around club catering and shared city experiences.
On Sunday, there will be a Sunday shopping day with an artists' market and open shops, plus the musical highlight: the choir and orchestra concert by the Heilsbronn Kantorei in the Münster. An event that connects the spiritual heritage of the former monastic town with the festival activities.
Detailed program and concert times will be announced in advance on heilsbronn.de and via the Kulturverein Heilsbronn e.V.
Heilsbronn is located between Ansbach and Nuremberg on the B14. By car, take the A6 (exit Lichtenau). By train: Heilsbronn station on the Nuremberg–Ansbach line, a 5-minute walk from the station to the city center. Parking is available at the outdoor swimming pool (Ansbacher Straße 8/10) and at the train station.
Admission to the Stadtfest is completely free. The Münster concert by the Heilsbronn Kantorei usually also has free admission (donations welcome). Food and drinks at the club stands are priced like at a typical Franconian city festival.
The Stadtfest takes place every two years — 2026 is a festival year again. Take advantage of the Sunday shopping day to experience Heilsbronn through its shops as well. The Münster is worth a visit, especially during the concert. Plan your arrival on Saturday well in advance, as the city center parking fills up quickly.
