Two days of live music, market, and funfair in the Hanseatic city — with Sunday shopping
The Stadtfest Attendorn is the big September weekend for the Sauerland Hanseatic city — two days of live music on the main stage, market and funfair stalls along the pedestrian zone, and a Sunday shopping event that integrates the city center shops into the festivities. In 2026, the festival takes place on Saturday, September 12th, and Sunday, September 13th. The organizer is the Werbegemeinschaft Attendorn (Attendorn Business Association), supported by retailers, restaurateurs, and volunteers from the city.
The heart of the Stadtfest is the stage program with 13 different acts, running from morning until late at night. A colorful mix of regional bands, brass ensembles, cover bands, and genre specialists:
Alongside the stage program, you'll find market and funfair stalls along the pedestrian zone and in the market square: amusement rides for the little ones, classic funfair food (bratwurst, crêpes, cotton candy, roasted almonds), snack stands from Attendorn restaurateurs, and a small craft market. The mix of stage program and funfair atmosphere makes the Stadtfest a typical Westphalian-Rhenish weekend Volksfest (popular festival).
On Sunday, September 13th, 2026, the Attendorn city center shops will also open (typically from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM) — fashion, shoe, book, and specialty stores will be integrated into the festival. Those who want to combine the festival with a day of shopping will have the opportunity.
Attendorn, with around 25,000 inhabitants, is one of the few Sauerland towns that were historically members of the Hanseatic League — a heritage that can still be seen in the city center with its "Sauerland Cathedral" (parish church of St. Johannes Baptist), the historic town hall, and the half-timbered houses. The Stadtfest uses this history as a backdrop: against the backdrop of medieval city architecture, authentic festival moments are created that are hard to find elsewhere.
The Stadtfest is part of a series of events that accompany the Hanseatic city throughout the year: HanseNacht (late-night shopping, end of August), Stadtfest (mid-September), Martini-Markt (early November), and Weihnachtsstadt Attendorn (3rd Advent weekend, December). Each format has its own character, together they make the Hanseatic city an active shopping and experience destination for the entire Südsauerland.
The 2026 Stadtfest offers two days of continuous stage programming with an unusually wide spectrum of acts, from traditional brass music to reggae, complemented by market and funfair stalls and Sunday shopping. The organizer is the Werbegemeinschaft Attendorn.
