Stade and its Fairground Tradition
Stade is one of the Lower Saxony cities with a long fairground tradition. The Hanseatic city hosts a large fair twice a year—one in spring and one in autumn. Both fairs historically date back to the town privileges granted to Stade as a Hanseatic city and are an integral part of the city's event calendar.
Pferdemarkt as the Festival Site
The Pferdemarkt in Stade's city center is the historic market square and, at the same time, the central festival site for the fair. The spacious open area provides room for the rides and stalls. Surrounding streets and squares are also used.
Rides for All Ages
The range of rides caters to all age groups: carousels and small rides for the youngest visitors, classic dodgems for teenagers and families, a Ferris wheel and roller coaster as visual landmarks, as well as adrenaline rides like the Break Dancer or Musik-Express for the braver guests. Showman families from Northern Germany travel to the Stade fair and shape the festival's image with their attractions.
Game Stalls, Sweets, and Snacks
In addition to the rides, classic fair elements are part of the event: game stalls with plush toys as prizes, shooting galleries, games of chance, sweet stalls with cotton candy, candied almonds, gingerbread hearts, and marshmallows, as well as snack stands with bratwurst, fries, crepes, burgers, and pizza. Beer tents and refreshment areas complete the Volksfest offerings.
Five Festival Days with Different Characters
The five festival days, from Thursday to Monday, each have their own character. Thursday offers a quieter start. Friday and Saturday evenings are peak times with a full atmosphere. Sunday is Family Day with a special program. Monday provides a relaxed conclusion. Opening hours vary depending on the day of the week.
