Neighborhood festival with art market, live music, and Sunday shopping in the Solingen pedestrian zone
The Spring Awakening in Ohligs is the major spring festival organized by the Ohligs Business and Interest Association (OWG). It marks the start of the Solingen neighborhood festival season and attracts thousands of visitors each year from Solingen, the Bergisches Land region, and neighboring Wuppertal to the pedestrian zone of the Ohligs district.
Around 50 arts and crafts stalls are set up on Düsseldorfer Straße and Grünstraße — jewelry, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, paintings. Live bands such as Luisa Corral, Dreams Divine, and So I Said Rock perform in the double tent on Düsseldorfer Straße. The surreal artist Lothar performs his City-Art-Project live action. For children, there are bungee trampolines, a carousel, face painting, and craft activities, plus a book flea market in the pedestrian zone.
Complementing the market atmosphere, the "Fit for Spring" sports program presents various sports to participate in. Local clubs like the Ohligs Volunteer Fire Department and the ADFC showcase their work, and Solingen's neighborhood initiatives promote participatory activities.
While the festival program begins at 11:00 AM, the shops in Ohligs' city center open their doors from 1:00 PM for Sunday shopping. Until 6:00 PM, visitors can shop and combine it with the market offerings — a commercial-cultural combination that the OWG has successfully implemented for years.
The district of Ohligs is located in the west of the independent city of Solingen (Bergisches Land, North Rhine-Westphalia) and has retained its distinct neighborhood character — with its own S-Bahn connection (Solingen-Ohligs station), its own pedestrian zone, and vibrant commercial life. The Ohligs Business and Interest Association organizes several events per year, actively shaping the district's life.
