Cinema Under the Open Sky
Open-air cinema has a magic all its own: the screen before dusk, the warm summer wind, the feeling of summer holidays. In Penzlin, the Reuterstadt in the Mecklenburg Lake District, this experience is enhanced by a special setting – the historic courtyard of the Old Castle.
The Old Castle as a Film Set
The Old Castle Penzlin is one of the most impressive historical sites in Northern Germany. It is known for its Museum of Everyday Magic and its witch's cellar. On summer evenings, its courtyard becomes a cinema hall: the centuries-old walls surround the screen, and as dusk falls, the show begins. The historic ambiance lends a special atmosphere to every film.

Two Dates in Summer 2026
The Sommerkino Penzlin is designed as a small series: in 2026, two screenings will take place – on July 10th and August 14th. This spreads the open-air cinema over the best weeks of summer and offers two opportunities to experience a film evening in the castle courtyard.
Summer in the Reuterstadt
The Sommerkino is part of Penzlin's diverse cultural offerings, ranging from the castle festival and citizens' festival to the photo biennial. For holidaymakers in the Mecklenburg Lake District, an evening in the castle courtyard is an atmospheric highlight – and for the residents of Penzlin, it's a beloved summer event in their own town.
