Arts and crafts market and accompanying program on the castle island
When the trees on Mirow Castle Island turn green, the baroque castle ensemble opens its doors for "Spring at Castle." The event is organized by the State Palaces, Gardens, and Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SSGK MV) in cooperation with the Mirow Island Association. The concept combines an arts and crafts market with castle tours and a musical supporting program.
On the paths around the castle and on the shore of Lake Mirow, around two dozen artisans present high-quality handmade goods: ceramics, glasswork, jewelry made from metal and natural materials, textiles, wood, paper art, soaps, and cosmetics. The market is curated – not a typical "flea market," but a selection of workshops from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and beyond.
The highlight of the castle's accompanying program is the special tour "Floral Splendor in the 18th Century" on Friday at 11 am. The tour through the historic castle rooms explains wall hangings, wallpapers, tapestries, and furniture with floral motifs – a journey through the garden and flower culture of the ducal court.
Mirow Castle is, not least, the birthplace of Sophie Charlotte (1744–1818), the later Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. The Mecklenburg-British history is documented in the castle museum and is gladly explained in detail by the castle guides.
By regional train from Berlin (via Neustrelitz) or Rostock to Mirow. By car A19 / A20 (exit Röbel/Müritz). The castle island is accessible on foot via a bridge.
The 2026 spring edition runs for two days, May 15 and 16, from 10 am to 6 pm each day on Mirow Castle Island. The organizers are the State Palaces, Gardens, and Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with the Mirow Island Association.
The focus is on the arts and crafts market: around two dozen workshops will showcase ceramics, glass, jewelry, textiles, wood, and more. On Friday at 11 am, the themed tour "Floral Splendor in the 18th Century" will take place in the castle – a journey through floral motifs in the ducal rooms' wallpapers, tapestries, and furniture.
