Nuremberg City Run — Franconia's biggest running event

With over 7,000 finishers, the SportScheck RUN Nuremberg is the largest running event in Franconia — and one of the most attractive city runs in Germany. The organizer is SportScheck GmbH, which has established the format as a nationwide RUN series and marks the season finale with Nuremberg. Its roots go back to the "Nürnberger Stadtlauf", which is continued under the SportScheck umbrella.

Hauptmarkt as Start and Finish Stage

What's special about the Nuremberg RUN: the start and finish are right at the Hauptmarkt, the representative marketplace of Nuremberg's old town, in front of the beautiful fountain and the Frauenkirche. In December, the world-famous Christkindlesmarkt takes place here — at the end of October, the square transforms into the running arena. The course then leads through the historic old town along the Pegnitz and on to the Wöhrder See in the east of the city. The half marathon involves two laps.

Distances for Everyone

The distance concept is open to both hobby runners and ambitious athletes: 6 km (start 3:00 PM) as an entry level, 10 km (start 1:15 PM) as the standard distance, and the half marathon 21.1 km (start 10:00 AM) for serious performance. In addition, the Bambini RUN over 600 m (under 7 years) and the Kids RUN over 2 km (7–12 years) in the morning. This makes the SportScheck RUN a family event — parents can run the half marathon while the children complete their own RUN.

Brooks Shirt, ESN Drinks, Erdinger Alcohol-Free

The entry fee includes an official Brooks brand shirt, which also serves as access to the refreshment stations. ESN provides runners with isotonic drinks on the course, and Erdinger Alkoholfrei welcomes them in the finish area. Timing is done by TimeMotion using shoe transponders — results are available immediately after the run on time-motion.de.

Nuremberg is the second-largest city in Bavaria (after Munich) and an independent major city in the state of Bavaria (09564). With its medieval old town, the Imperial Castle, the Beautiful Fountain, and its gingerbread tradition, it is one of the most visited tourist cities in Germany. The SportScheck RUN utilizes this backdrop — the runners traverse one of the most beautiful historic city centers in Europe on their course.
