About Speyer Spring Fair

The Speyer Spring Fair is one of the oldest funfairs in Germany and celebrates its 444th edition in 2026. From April 2nd to 19th, the Speyer festival grounds transform into a large amusement park with 62 showman businesses: a Ferris wheel, carousels, bumper cars, roller coasters, game stalls, shooting galleries, and food stands are part of the traditional inventory of this Volksfest (popular festival) institution. The fair traditionally opens on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at 6:30 PM by Mayor Stefanie Seiler. Over the 18 days, several special events are scheduled β€” family days with reduced prices, Ladies Nights with discounts, an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday, and anniversary fireworks to conclude on Sunday, April 19th, at 9 PM.

444 Years of the Speyer Spring Fair

With its 444th edition in 2026, the Speyer Spring Fair reaches a remarkable anniversary. The fair dates back to the medieval market rights of the Free Imperial City of Speyer and is one of the oldest continuously held funfairs in Germany. Over centuries, it has evolved from a trading and bartering market into a modern Volksfest (popular festival) β€” the tradition has remained, while its appearance has adapted to the times.

62 Showman Businesses at the Festival Grounds

In 2026, a total of 62 businesses will set up their rides, stalls, and stands at the Speyer festival grounds. The basic inventory includes the Ferris wheel offering views over the cathedral city, several carousels for different age groups, bumper cars, roller coasters, and high-speed rides. Alongside these, classic funfair elements shape the scene: shooting galleries, game stalls, gingerbread stalls, roasted almond vendors, crΓͺpe and bratwurst stands, cotton candy, and candied almonds.

Opening on Maundy Thursday

The opening ceremony takes place on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at 6:30 PM, led by Mayor Stefanie Seiler. The traditional beer tapping marks the official start of the 18-day fair. From this moment on, carousels and stalls will operate daily until the conclusion on Sunday, April 19th.

Family Days, Ladies Nights, and Easter Egg Hunt

Several special events are spread throughout the 18 days. On Family Days β€” Wednesday, April 8th, and Wednesday, April 15th β€” reduced prices apply to many rides. Ladies Nights on Friday, April 10th, and Friday, April 17th, offer a €1 discount for women on selected rides starting from 7 PM. On Easter Sunday, April 5th, a large Easter egg hunt will take place β€” 4,444 eggs are hidden, a tribute to the 444th edition.

Anniversary Fireworks to Conclude

The finale on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at 9 PM, will be anniversary fireworks over the festival grounds β€” a special pyrotechnic display for the 444th edition. The fireworks are traditionally the most popular moment of the Spring Fair, regularly attracting tens of thousands of spectators.
