23rd Spectaculum in the Worms city park with over 60 encampment groups, knight tournaments and 100 market stalls
Since 2003, mid-May, the Wormser Wäldchen and the adjacent city park have been transformed into a medieval encampment. From a manageable market in the early years, one of the largest medieval events in Rhineland-Palatinate has now emerged. The 23rd edition in 2026 again gathers over 60 encampment groups from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, France and the Netherlands, who stage Worms Middle Ages in historically equipped tents — with craft demonstrations, mock battles, round tables and music contributions.
A central element of the Spectaculum are the knight tournaments, which take place several times a day in the large tournament ring. In 2026, the Fafnir Cup of the Iron League will again be held — an international tournament series for heavy full-contact fights in historical armour. In addition, there are classic jousting demonstrations on horseback, foot combat, archery and demonstrations of historical weapons technology.
The market comprises over 100 stalls with historical crafts: blacksmiths, leather workers, felters, turners, potters, bow makers, goldsmiths, fabric merchants and fur merchants offer their wares. Culinary offerings range from roasted boar through stick bread and mead to honey wine, Saumagen and Flammkuchen — everything that belongs to a medieval feast.
The Spectaculum places special emphasis on family-friendliness. In its own family area, children's Highland Games with tree trunk throwing for children's hands, archery for beginners, felting, pottery and stonemason workshops take place. Storytellers and jugglers perform on a fixed daily rotation. Children under 12 have free admission to the park.
Three concert evenings frame the Spectaculum musically: on Friday the medieval folk band Haggefugg plays, on Saturday the Swiss folk-rock formation Koenix, on Sunday Spilldeyvel. The concerts are included in the day ticket and take place on a large stage in the Wäldchen.
A special feature of the Spectaculum is the opening until midnight on Friday and Saturday: by torchlight, campfires and musical accompaniment, a special nocturnal atmosphere unfolds. The Wäldchen becomes car-free from Friday 2 PM; the city park becomes a car-free zone.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
