Four days of medieval spectacle at Ravelin 2 and Glacis-Park with dragons, knights, and Corvus Corax
The Spectaculum Magdeburgense has taken place every year at Pentecost since 2003 and, with over 20 editions, is one of the largest medieval festivals in Central Germany. It is organized by the association KulturSzeneMagdeburg, which stages the spectacle in one of Magdeburg's most beautiful inner-city spots: around Ravelin 2, one of the preserved fortifications from the Prussian era, as well as in the adjacent Glacis-Park.
What happens here is much more than a market with mead and fur vests. The program alternates between knight tournaments with real horses, fire shows after dark, acrobatics, bard music, and grand juggler performances. The dragon Fangdorn – over ten meters long – performs its own story "Fangdorn and the Elves' Treasure" several times a day and has been the secret star of the festival for years. At the craft market, blacksmiths, glassblowers, bookbinders, woodcarvers, and potters work live before the eyes of the visitors.
Musically, the festival has been bringing renowned acts from the German medieval scene for years. In 2026, Corvus Corax – the band that significantly shaped the genre in the mid-1990s – will headline on Friday evening. Also performing are Höllenspaß, Duo Luther und Müller, Tanderam, and Mabynogyon, among others.
Directly linked with the Spectaculum are the 15th Magdeburger Festungstage. This is not about the Middle Ages, but about the more recent history of the Magdeburg fortress site: Historical groups set up camps from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, demonstrating drill, camp life, and music of the respective eras. Anyone who wants to know why Magdeburg was almost completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and how a fortress city functioned will get a very concrete answer here.
Magdeburg is a district-free city and the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt. The venue is a 15-minute walk from the Cathedral and the main train station. Families are explicitly invited: Children up to 14 years old have free admission, and reduced tickets are available for students, severely disabled persons, and social pass holders.

The 15th Magdeburger Festungstage run in parallel, showcasing life in the fortress city from the 17th to 19th centuries. The headliner concert by Corvus Corax on Friday evening is the musical highlight of the 2026 edition.
