Guided peat barge trip through the Teufelsmoor with Tam-Tam Gong, Handpan, and Moor stories at Torfschiffhafen Kreuzkuhle
The Sound Journey into the Moor is more than a classic boat trip or a concert—it combines nature experience, acoustic meditation, and regional storytelling into a unique event. On a traditional peat barge, the flat transport boat once used to ship cut peat from the moor to the harbor, participants glide through the waterways of the Teufelsmoor. The surroundings are quiet, the boat moves slowly, and the senses open up to the atmosphere of the landscape.
During the trip, a musician plays the Tam-Tam Gong and Handpan, two instruments whose overtone-rich, meditative sound perfectly suits the atmosphere of the moor. The sounds spread across the water, are absorbed by the landscape, and create an acoustic experience that cannot be replicated in a concert hall or at home.
Additionally, a storyteller accompanies the trip with tales and myths from the Teufelsmoor—stories about Findorff, the moor colonist, about peat cutters, the moor spirit, and the hard work of the early settlers. Regional storytelling is thus conveyed vividly, giving the sound journey additional depth.
The number of participants is limited to 18 people—the capacity of a peat barge. This intimate group size is essential for the meditative atmosphere. Reservations are mandatory and should be made well in advance, as the experience books up quickly.
The event is organized by the association Findorffs Erben Gnarrenburg, dedicated to preserving and conveying the tradition of peat cutters and moor colonists. The association's name refers to the Lower Saxon moor colonist Jürgen Christian Findorff, who drove the colonization of the Teufelsmoor in the 18th century.
In 90 minutes, participants glide through the Teufelsmoor on the peat barge. The evening hours with falling light and calm water surface provide the ideal backdrop.
With a maximum of 18 participants, the atmosphere remains focused. No one gets lost in the crowd; everyone experiences the sounds and stories directly.
