In Markt Schwaben in Upper Bavaria — a market town similar to a district capital in the Ebersberg district near Munich — the four seasonal markets are fixed dates on the event calendar. Frühlingsmarkt, Sommermarkt, Herbstmarkt, and Wintermarkt structure the year and bring the town centre to life once a quarter.
The Sommermarkt is the quarterly edition at the beginning of July. Around 80 stalls offer a mix of everyday goods, arts and crafts and jewellery, Italian fashion, Indian textiles, decorative and gift items, as well as regional products. The culinary offerings range from Bratwurst and Spareribs to hamburgers, Langos and Crêpes, as well as vegan specialities, cheese, sausage, and ham stalls, and local bakeries and a brewery.
For children, there is a compact selection of small rides and stalls — the market is explicitly designed as a family event. The Sommermarkt is accompanied by the Sunday with open shops: the local retail trade opens its doors, allowing the market and the town centre to merge.
The seasonal markets are organised by the market organiser P.K.S. Messevertrieb (Peter Kajetan Schmid) in cooperation with the Markt Markt Schwaben. In 2026, the Sommermarkt will take place on Sunday, July 5 — embedded in the quartet of Wintermarkt (Feb 22), Frühlingsmarkt (May 10), Sommermarkt (July 5), and Herbstmarkt (Oct 11).
