Open-Air with a Difference
Since its first edition in 2018, Sommer am Kiez has become Augsburg's most defining open-air concert series. The organizer is the local concert promoter BOB'S, who deliberately chose Helmut-Haller-Platz in Augsburg-Oberhausen as the venue – a city square in the middle of a residential area, with the Augsburg-Oberhausen train station behind it, a tram line alongside, and the namesake Kiez Kneipe (neighborhood pub) opposite. The ethos: "Open-Air with a difference" – not on a green field, but right in the city, in the shadow of the elevated train.
2026 Lineup – Punk, Rock, Folk, Reggae, Ska
For years, the programming has covered a broad spectrum beyond the classical and Schlager mainstream: Punk, Rock, Folk, Reggae, Ska. The following acts from the German-speaking rock and punk scene are confirmed for 2026, among others:
- Dritte Wahl – Punk from Rostock, active since the early 90s
- Kärbholz – German rock from the Westerwald
- LaBrassBanda – Bavarian brass big band from Chiemgau
- Fiddlers Green – Speedfolk from Erlangen, a classic of German folk-rock
The main program is complemented by other acts and smaller bands like Celina Pratter, as well as local Augsburg bands. Vivenu is the official ticket platform; remaining tickets are often available at the box office on concert nights.
Helmut-Haller-Platz and the Augsburg Kiez Concept
Helmut-Haller-Platz is named after the national football player Helmut Haller, born in Augsburg in 1928, and is located in the Oberhausen district – a neighborhood traditionally shaped by working-class culture in the north of Augsburg, which has developed a strong identity as a "Kiez" (neighborhood) in recent years. With the concert series, BOB'S has consciously embraced this identity: Sommer am Kiez is not a festival, but a neighborhood event with festival quality.
Partners and Cultural Policy Context
The series is supported by a mix of organizers, hoteliers, media partners, and municipal utility companies: BOB'S, Patchwork Hotel Alpenhof, Radio Bob, Haustechnik Donner, and Stadtwerke Augsburg. Sommer am Kiez is part of the Augsburger Stadtsommer (Augsburg City Summer), the city's overarching open-air program in June and July.
