Farm Festival of Solidarische Landwirtschaft Wisserland on Whit Saturday
Solidarische Landwirtschaft (SoLaWi) Wisserland is one of the younger, yet forward-looking projects in the region around Wissen in the Altenkirchen district. Consumers and the farm join forces, sharing risks and yields, and collect their share of vegetables, fruit, and other produce weekly at the farm or designated distribution points.
The annual farm festival is an important event in the SoLaWi's calendar. It invites members, potential new harvest sharers, and interested parties from the region to get to know the farm, the fields, the cultivation methods, and the people behind the project. Thus, the festival combines informational, participatory, and social functions.
During farm tours, the team explains the planting plan, land management, and the logistics of the weekly distribution. Workshops on topics such as seeds, compost, permaculture, or preserving complement the educational offerings. A culinary area with self-produced goods, bratwurst, cakes, and drinks provides a social setting, while a small stage with acoustic music creates the right atmosphere.
Whit Saturday (2026: May 23) is a well-chosen date: early summer shows its best side, the first harvest fields are visible, and for many families in the southern Westerwald, it's a welcome outing during the extended Whit weekend.
The term “Wisserland” describes the region around the town of Wissen as a nature-oriented landscape shaped by the Sieg river valley. SoLaWi sees itself as part of this identity and promotes it to the regional public through the farm festival.
The 2026 farm festival will take place on Whit Saturday, May 23. The SoLaWi Wisserland farm will open its gates throughout the day for members, interested parties, and families.
The event is designed to be accessible and family-friendly. Specific times and workshop topics will be communicated via the website wisserland.de.
