Sing!Fest 2026 — Bielefeld sings in the Oetker-Halle
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Klang!Festival e.V. will transform the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle in Bielefeld into an open singing stage. The Sing!Fest is one of Germany's most accessible choral music formats — the barrier is intentionally set to zero. "I can't sing" simply doesn't apply, is the guiding principle of the organizer.
Two Main Formats
Together!Singing (3:30 PM-4:45 PM) — Family Offer
Open sing-along for all age groups and families. Popular hits, folk songs, and chanson hits are sung together, accompanied by the Klang!Festival band. Free admission. Designed to be intergenerational — grandparents and grandchildren sing side by side.
OneDay!Choir (7:00 PM-10:00 PM) — The Evening Choir
The exciting twist: a one-evening choir. Anyone who fancies choir singing comes to the Oetker-Halle at 7 PM, learns a common repertoire for three hours, and performs it the same evening with the Klang!Festival band. "No subscription, no commitment, just like that" — zero obligation. Pay-what-you-can: €2-15 (standard €7).
Morning — Over 1,000 Children Sing
Even in the morning, the Oetker-Halle is full: kindergartens and schools from Bielefeld bring over 1,000 children to the hall to sing with the Klang!Festival band. Registration is done via the PDF form on the organizer's website. The pedagogical core of the Sing!Fest lies here: Bielefeld should be a city where children experience singing as a matter of course.
The Concept — Singing is for Everyone
Behind the Sing!Fest is a clear stance: Singing is not a talent you have or don't have — singing is a basic human need accessible to everyone. The format is designed to be as low-threshold as possible:
- No preparation required
- No prior knowledge expected
- Pay-what-you-can — money is not a barrier
- No commitment beyond the evening
This makes the Sing!Fest perhaps the most accessible choir format in Germany — and one of Bielefeld's most democratic city festivals.
Rudolf-Oetker-Halle — Bielefeld's Concert Landmark
The Rudolf-Oetker-Halle on Lampingstraße is Bielefeld's most important concert hall and was built in 1930. The name comes from the donor Rudolf-August Oetker. With its excellent acoustics and a capacity of around 1,500 seats, the hall is the ideal venue for a participatory singing festival with the highest possible acoustic quality — the shared sound carries.
Bielefeld and the Klang!Festival
Bielefeld in the district of Bielefeld (city status, 340,000 inhabitants) is the center of Ostwestfalen. Klang!Festival e.V., supported by the Bielefeld Cultural Office, has been organizing the Klang!Festival for years with workshops, concerts, and precisely this Sing!Fest as a family and participatory format. A consciously grassroots-oriented counterpart to the major professional classical and choir festivals in the region.
