Traditional year-end run on December 31, 2026 – flat, asphalted loop around the Salzgittersee
The New Year's Eve Run at Salzgittersee is one of the oldest year-end runs in Lower Saxony. The 48th edition in 2026 underscores the consistency of this event, which takes place every year on December 31st, regardless of wind and weather. The organizer is the triathlon department of SV Glück Auf 1901 Gebhardshagen, which cultivates a year-round running culture in the Salzgitter area with the Silvesterlauf, the GlückLauf, the BraWo Triathlon, and the Abendlauf.
The course follows the completely developed circular path around the Salzgittersee. It is a flat, asphalted route with no significant elevation changes, making it ideal for personal best times. One lake loop measures exactly 5.4 kilometers; the longer distance of 10.8 kilometers corresponds to two complete laps. The course is closed to general traffic during the competition.
The race headquarters is the Salzgitter indoor swimming pool in Reppnersche Bucht. Here you will find the bib collection, changing rooms, showers, and the refreshment station. The award ceremonies also take place here. The central location by the lake makes arrival uncomplicated.
The New Year's Eve Run has become a meeting point for the local and regional running scene. Families accompany their running relatives along the course, and the finish line is enthusiastically applauded. Those who want to end the year actively will find the perfect setting here.
The 2026 New Year's Eve Run offers the ideal opportunity to end the year with sports and start towards New Year's Eve together with the Lower Saxony running community. The triathlon department of SV Glück Auf Gebhardshagen ensures smooth competition procedures and a warm atmosphere. Catering, changing rooms, and showers are available at the indoor swimming pool.
