Neighborhood festival at the Youth Square in the Spandau district of Siemensstadt – part of the Berlin-wide Fête de la Musique
Siemensstadt is a district in the Spandau borough – a district unique in its industrial history, which was systematically built by Siemens AG from the 1900s onwards as a factory and residential settlement. The expressionist residential buildings of the 'Siemensstadt Housing Estate' (architects: Hans Scharoun, Walter Gropius, Otto Bartning, among others) have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage 'Berlin Modernism Housing Estates' since 2008. Today, the district is undergoing urban renewal – Siemensstadt Square, the new industrial and research campus, is one of Berlin's largest urban development projects.
The Youth Square on Mäckeritzstraße is a neighborhood square in the middle of the residential area. Here, casa e.V. – a local socio-cultural association – sets up a stage together with the Business Street Management, along with stands for local initiatives, play areas for children, and catering areas. The start at 3:00 PM is family-friendly, and as the evening progresses, the program and atmosphere shift towards a concert feel.
In 2026, the district festival coincides with the Berlin-wide Fête de la Musique – the day when the city brings live music to squares, courtyards, and streets in over 100 districts every year on June 21. Siemensstadt is once again a partner district in 2026. Bands from all genres will play on the stage at the Youth Square – the mix follows the Fête logic: Folk, Pop, Soul, Klezmer, Hip-Hop, Classical Crossover, or a DJ set, depending on registrations. Free admission.
In addition to the stage program, clubs, businesses, and initiatives from Siemensstadt and Haselhorst will present themselves. The Business Street Management is the central player in local economic development in the neighborhood and uses the festival to showcase the diversity of providers. Casa e.V., in turn, brings social work, cultural offerings, and youth education into public spaces.
Spandau is the westernmost Berlin borough, and Siemensstadt is one of its most distinctive districts. The district festival is part of a trend in which Berlin districts – especially those historically shaped by industry – are confidently presenting themselves again with local festival formats. For Fête de la Musique 2026, Reinickendorf has the status of 'Focus District' – but Spandau, with the Wilhelmstadtfest, Mierendorff-INSEL (across the district border), and the Siemensstadt District Festival, is one of the densest Fête districts in the city.
The 2026 edition takes place on the longest day of the year and is part of the Berlin-wide Fête de la Musique calendar. The Youth Square on Mäckeritzstraße becomes the venue for a diverse neighborhood festival with a musical focus and additional stall program for seven hours.
The mix of stage concerts, club stalls, and a family-friendly start from 3:00 PM has been the festival's hallmark since its first editions in 2024. It is one of Berlin's younger district festivals and consistently positions itself as a neighborhood meeting format.
