Small, socially-oriented neighborhood Christmas market on the 2nd Advent in Berlin-Charlottenburg, near Bröhan Museum and Palace
The Klausenerplatz neighborhood in Berlin-Charlottenburg is one of the few Berlin residential areas where active civic engagement has a long tradition. Since the 1970s, residents have been committed to their district through the citizens' association and KiezKulturWerkstadt. The Christmas market on the 2nd Advent weekend is one of the oldest formats.
The offerings are deliberately not touristy. Stalls offer used toys (often donated by residents), used children's clothing, handmade jewelry, ceramics from Berlin potteries, fragrant soaps, Advent decorations. At the food stalls, bratwurst and fresh bread, along with mulled wine, children's punch, coffee, cocoa, and mead (honey wine).
A program runs throughout the day on a small, decorated stage: readings for children and adults, performances by local choirs, small games, a raffle. Low-threshold, without much introduction. The audience consists mainly of residents and families from the surrounding streets.
Klausener Platz is located near Charlottenburg Palace, the Bröhan Museum, and the Berggruen Museum – but off the main tourist routes. Visitors to the market get to know a quieter, resident-focused side of Charlottenburg. Sophie-Charlotten-Straße and Seelingstraße are characteristic Wilhelminian-era streets with small cafés and independent shops.
The Klausener Platz Citizens' Association is sticking to the traditional date on the 2nd Advent weekend. The exact confirmation of the dates and the detailed program for 2026 will be published by KiezKulturWerkstadt in the fall of 2026.
The format remains unchanged: Saturday from 2 PM to 8 PM, Sunday from 1 PM to 7 PM, small stage with local acts, used toys for families, regional pottery, and crafts. Stall fees are deliberately low, many residents sell their own creations.
The final dates and detailed program for 2026 will be published in the fall of 2026 at klausenerplatz.de.
