Siegburg — District Capital between the Rhine and Sieg

Siegburg, with around 41,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of the Rhein-Sieg district, located east of Bonn on the banks of the Sieg river, shortly before it flows into the Rhine. Characterized by the medieval Michaelsberg with its baroque abbey, a lively pedestrian zone, and its ICE high-speed train connection to Cologne-Frankfurt, Siegburg presents a cityscape blending tradition and proximity to the big city. During the summer months, the city transforms its market square into an open-air concert stage.

Eight Wednesdays, Eight Concerts

The Siegburg Sommer Live series runs every Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM, from late June to mid-August. In 2026, eight concerts are scheduled – a carefully curated mix of tribute bands for the biggest pop and rock acts and Cologne-style sing-along repertoire. Admission is free. The market square, with a view of the historic town hall, provides the backdrop.

Gastronomy and Local Associations

What sets Siegburg Sommer Live apart from many summer concert series is its integration with local club life: Local clubs and associations from Siegburg and the surrounding districts regularly serve drinks at the stands around the market square – the proceeds go into the club treasuries. In addition, there are food trucks offering a changing selection from burgers to vegan dishes, and the Weinschmiede (wine bar), serving selected wines. This turns the market square into a continuous open-air gastronomic stage.

Visitors can easily combine the concert evening with a stroll through the city: Michaelsberg with its abbey and views, the historic old town, the City Museum, the Stations of the Cross on Michaelsberg. Siegburg is very well connected via the Cologne-Frankfurt ICE line – Siegburg/Bonn station is a 10-minute walk from the market square.
