Art and Design Market in the Moritzburg Castle Moat
SICHTBAR is Halle's most important art and design market. In 2026, the format celebrates its tenth anniversary – and it does so in one of the most spectacular settings a market could possibly have: the moat of the Moritzburg, a late Gothic fortress on the northern edge of the old town, which today houses the Moritzburg Art Museum Halle. Over 50 artists, designers, and craftspeople from Saxony-Anhalt and beyond showcase what makes contemporary design thrive: handmade originals, signed editions, individual pieces.
The spectrum ranges from jewelry (silver, gold, alternative materials) to photography and illustration, to textile art and fashion accessories. Porcelain and ceramics with clearly recognizable workshop marks. Graphic prints, paintings, sculpture. If you're looking for original handcrafted jewelry or a unique design piece, this is the place to be – mass-produced goods can be found elsewhere. The market is curated by Kerstin Krieg and Matthias Behne; the organizer is the Association of Visual Artists (BBK) Saxony-Anhalt e.V.
The Moritzburg is one of the central art institutions in Central Germany. It displays a significant collection of classical modern art (Otto Mueller, Lyonel Feininger, Erich Heckel) and hosts rotating exhibitions. Halle (Saale), an independent city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, is a university city, the city of Handel, and home to the Burg Giebichenstein University of Applied Arts and Design – the connection between academic and independent design shapes the profile of SICHTBAR. The castle backdrop turns the market weekend into a small urban festival.
Live jazz on the castle meadow, street food from local vendors, interactive art activities, and participatory installations round off the weekend. Those who know the format come with money in their pockets and an empty wall at home.
In 2026, SICHTBAR celebrates its 10th anniversary. More than 50 selected artists and designers present their works in the moat of the Moritzburg Art Museum Halle. The anniversary edition is curated by Kerstin Krieg and Matthias Behne in cooperation with the Moritzburg Art Museum, the Cultural Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt, and Turm e.V.
