Traditional Kirchweih in Selzen with a special wine tasting amidst the Selzer Berg vineyard on the second weekend of September
The Selzer Kerb is one of the most characteristic village festivals in the Selz Valley. It takes place every year on the second weekend of September in the village center of the small wine-growing village of Selzen. Selzen is located in the Rhein-Selz administrative district, nestled between vineyards in the Selz Valley in southern Rhenish Hesse.
The focus is on the traditional Kirchweih with festival activities in the village center. Local clubs provide catering at stalls and in festival tents, live music creates atmosphere, and carousels and candy stalls complete the festival grounds. Classic program points include the tapping of the first beer keg to open on Friday evening, the festival evening on Saturday with live bands, and family day on Sunday.
However, the unique selling point of the Selzer Kerb is the wine tasting in the vineyards. On one of the festival days – usually Sunday – tractors with trailers from the Selzer Winzerverein take guests from the village center up to the Selzer Berg vineyard. An open-air wine tasting is held there amidst the vines. The Selzer vintners serve their white, rosé, and red wines, accompanied by small snacks, and guests enjoy the view over the Selz Valley, the Rhine Valley, and the Rhenish-Hessian hilly landscape.
This combination of Volksfest and wine experience in the vineyard is unique in Rhenish Hesse. It makes the Selzer Kerb a destination for guests from outside the region as well, who want to combine the authentic Rhenish Kerb flair with the charm of a wine tasting in the cultural landscape. The tractor ride itself has a special experiential character and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful moments of the entire event.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition of the Selzer Kerb. The concept combines a Volksfest in the village center with a wine tasting in the vineyards. Catering by local clubs, wine from Selzer vintners, live music. The highlight on Sunday is the tractor ride to the Selzer Berg vineyard and the open-air wine tasting amidst the vines.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
